Building Safe Futures in Educational Construction

For over 15 years, ICM Construction has been committed to creating exceptional learning spaces across Queensland and Victoria. Constantly prioritising the specific needs of each school in all our projects.

As we reflect on our extensive portfolio of educational projects, we acknowledge that our responsibility extends beyond mere construction. Each project is carefully executed to nurture student achievement, aid educators, and strengthen community connections. High-quality facilities are crucial to the learning experiences for students, teachers, and the school community.

Our knowledge working within active school environments enables us to finish projects with minimal disruption to daily routines. We approach each project with detailed planning, carefully coordinating schedules to align with school terms and implementing effective traffic and pedestrian management strategies. This guarantees the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors alike. ICM conducts comprehensive risk assessments and maintains communication with the school principal and business manager to address any concerns during construction.

Recent projects include the construction of a new three-storey General Learning Area Building at Manly State School and the completion of the community Youth Hub at Dakabin State High School (SHS). The new Manly State School GLA will offer flexible classrooms equipped with modern technology and outdoor learning spaces, catering to diverse learning styles.

The Dakabin SHS Youth Hub, completed in collaboration with Children’s Health Queensland and the Department of Education, provides support services and engagement programs to progress student wellbeing and personal development.

With a new academic year well underway, ICM Construction upholds its commitment to safety across all project stages. On site, our team consistently prioritises best practices in safety, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The application of our 1BreadCrumb safety system for hazard reporting, and ongoing professional training for all personnel. ICM conducts regular safety audits and gathers feedback from our workforce, continually refining our practices to ensure a safe working environment for everyone involved.

Safety is not merely a priority; it is an integral part of our culture at ICM. We utilise Procore software to ensure that all stakeholders, including school administrators, local authorities, and community members, remain informed and engaged throughout each project. This transparency advances trust and collaboration, allowing us to address concerns proactively.

Our HSEQ lead, Sonja Hatfield, plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with safety procedures. Sonja facilitates professional teaching for all ICM employees, including First Aid certification, induction training, and high-risk activity courses.

Through employing these best practices, systems, and training programs, we equip our teams with the skills needed to effectively manage any project we undertake. We strive to establish secure, inspiring, and innovative educational spaces that empower future generations.
