New Dakabin State High School Youth Hub

ICM Construction is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Dakabin State High School Youth Hub. This project was delivered through a collaborative effort with the Department of Education and Queensland Health, representing a substantial investment in the wellbeing of local students and families, with a total funding of $10.8 million from the Queensland Government.

The Dakabin Youth Hub functions as a new Community Health Precinct, led by Children’s Health Queensland. This new facility integrates health, education, and social services, thereby providing a comprehensive support system tailored to meet the needs of the Dakabin community. The Hub comprises two interconnected buildings: one dedicated to health and social services and the other housing vocational training facilities, including a commercial training kitchen, landscaping, a café, and a servery area designed for school and community events.

A distinctive feature of the Dakabin Youth Hub is its unwavering commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all. The Hub actively promotes essential programs such as Breakfast Club and Homework Club, embodying the school’s motto: “The future lies within.” The hub aims to help students by promoting both their academic and personal development, while also boosting mental wellbeing and moderating health risks.

“The completion of the Dakabin Youth Hub is a moment of great pride for ICM Construction,” stated Gene Stewart, Director of ICM Construction. “We are honored to have contributed to this exceptional facility, which will benefit the Dakabin community for many years, assisting students in their educational and health pursuits.”

ICM engaged closely with students and the school community throughout the design process, ensuring that the facility displays their expectations and needs. The contributions of students informed every aspect of the space, from its functional layout to the artwork displayed within the hub.

Frank Tracey, Chief Executive of Children’s Health Queensland, remarked on the significance of the Dakabin Youth Hub as a pivotal new resource for the school.

“Children’s Health Queensland is dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of Queensland children and young people through more connected, collaborative, and accessible community hubs. The Dakabin Youth Hub exemplifies this commitment, meeting young people where they are with services tailored to their needs in a safe and supportive environment,” he remarked.

This project contributes to the quality of life for local communities by fostering the connection between health and education. It was completed within a busy “live” school environment, with ICM striving to minimise disruptions to the school’s daily operations. We are proud to empower the Dakabin community through this new facility.
